I just read a book (and I’m not into shaming authors, so I won’t) where the heroine had really serious reservations about the hero, and then, once one thing shifted, all the other reservations dropped, the characters hop into bed (did I mention she was a virgin?), and the reservations aren’t seen again until near the end of the book.
That was the dramatic tension that just suddenly fizzled out of the book. I probably put it down 5-6 times between that point and the ending, and it wasn’t a long book (category length). Hell, I read several other books in the middle, including one from Lauren Gallagher and two from Jackie Ashenden. I almost never put a fiction book down and read something else in the middle.
If you bother to have a character remain a virgin for longer than is typical, then there’s simply got to be more to it seduction-wise than her asking the hero to make love to her. (Srsly.)
So there I am reading this, asking myself “WTH?”
